An Interview with Clare Hogg of Element Pictures
Clare Hogg one of our newest residents here at Blick Studios, she is the Development and Production Executive for Element Pictures, an Irish film and television drama production company and an independent film distribution company. We had a little chat with her to tell a bit about a day in the life at Element Pictures.
Tell us a bit about Element Pictures and your role.
Element Pictures is run by Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe, and works across production, distribution, and exhibition. Element Pictures Distribution handles StudioCanal’s slate in Ireland as well as direct acquisitions. Additionally, Element operates an online video on demand platform, Volta.ie and also runs and operates the Light House Cinema in Dublin and Pálás Cinema in Galway. I’m Development and Production Executive for them here in Belfast.
What’s a day of work like with Element Pictures?
It mostly involves reading! I read a lot of scripts. Also, meeting writers, which I really enjoy. There are offices in Dublin and London too, so we’re always in communication with each other.
Any exciting projects you can tell us about?
Well, one very recent exciting production is Yorgos Lanthimos’ ‘The Killing of a Sacred Deer’, which stars Colin Farrell and Nicole Kidman. There’s also Sebastián Lelio’s ‘Disobedience’, with Rachel Weisz, Rachel McAdams and Alessandro Nivola… I’d highly recommend them!
What’s been the highlight of your career so far?
Working for Element has absolutely been: they’re such a great company to be part of.
