An Interview with Elena Magliveras
Elena Magliveras is the newest resident of our Cotton Court Studios, she is a graphic designer who recently moved to Belfast from Edinburgh. We caught up with her to find out about her business and her relocation.
Tell us a bit about what you do
I’m a graphic designer, I work on branding projects and my main client is a company based in Edinburgh called Timber Design Initiatives, they’re involved in lots of things to do with timber construction in the UK, I do websites for their different projects and any promotional materials etc.
How did you get into graphic design?
My degree was in fashion design, when I finished that I moved over to Sydney and was working in a small fashion company there, I just found that making the clothes wasn’t what I was enjoying, it was more the stuff to do with the branding that I really enjoyed. The owner of the company was a graphic designer and I realised that’s what I wanted to do. So I moved back to the UK and did a three months retraining course and then got work in Edinburgh after that.
Have you noticed any differences between Belfast and Edinburgh?
Belfast feels exciting and vibrant, there is a lot going on with design. There’s loads of live music and it seems really easy to get everywhere, including back to visit clients. You also get so much for your money here which is great.
