An Interview with Francesca Biondi
Francesca Biondi is one of our newest residents at our Cotton Court studios, she is an Italian Art Consultant who works to support artists working in different disciplines and medium. We took a few minutes to learn some more about her.
Tell us a bit about your business
I’m a freelance art consultant so I work on projects based in Belfast and Northern Ireland. I organise exhibitions and am planning some outside of Northern Ireland in the future. I also organise collections for interior design. I select artists work for exhibitions and manage all the aspects involved including marketing and logistics. It’s very important for me to support artists by selecting their work and looking at it from a different perspective – I often write literature about their work and interview them, I also try to advise them about their career in order to expand their practice and promote their work.
What is your day-to-day like as an art consultant?
Every day is different for me which is great. You don’t know what your day is going to be like and it changes from month to month. It’s not like a 9-5 job, sometimes it’s less but sometimes it’s a lot more. My days normally include contacting artists and selecting which will work best for the galleries and interior design. I’ll also need to consider the space for galleries and exhibitions to ensure the pieces work together organically without clashing or having one that stands out so much that it cancels out the others. I also ensure the marketing and promotion is taken care of.
What’s some of the most popular artwork in Northern Ireland?
When it comes to buying art work paintings are very popular in Northern Ireland. I’m from Italy, and we love paintings too. Some people are interested in sculptures here but not as much, they generally like things that they are able to hang on their walls.
What projects are you currently working on?
There’s going to be an exhibition coming up in this month and I’m also working on an online gallery which currently is just a prototype but is really nice. It’ll be good to see artists here working in different mediums and exploring different themes as well and working in different styles – there are so many talented artists here in Northern Ireland.
